About Barbara Bell
In this picture we are checking out the lava flow. We have lived in East Hawai`i for 40 years now (time flies when you're having fun?) so we obviously love Hawai`i. Jack is a 3rd generation Hardwood Flooring Contractor, newly retired, and Barbara is a jaquette of all trades, most recently working for the County of Hawai`i.
Barbara Bell purchased this House in 1998
Why Barbara Bell chose Keaau
East Hawaii is varied, and exciting; the volcano never ceases to inspire and thrill. Madame Pele gives her unique energy to the whole of East Hawaii, and especially the Puna District. We have lived in East Hawaii for so long, and this house was our home, until we moved to the Big City of Hilo. Jack built this home in 1998, after living a few blocks away for about 15 years. We seem to always be cleaning, upgrading, or doing maintenance on something. The house is definitely in good order.
What makes this House unique
Because our home is almost at the end of a quiet dead-end street, it is very restful and private. We like to find new spots, via bicycle, or hiking boots, or swimming fins. There are so many incredible places to explore and we never get tired of adventuring. We like to walk or bike the coastline--for miles. To the south, we go to some tidepools about 1 1/2 miles away. To the north, we bike, then hike the last bit to a white sand beach that's about 5 miles away. When we are here, if we're not doing maintenance stuff, we also spend many hours lounging back and forth between the hot tub, the solar heated pool, and lazing around on the deck. It's so private and quiet--we love it.

Gorgeous home right on the ocean!
This home is absolutely beautiful. The view was amazing. Everything we would need and more was provided. Pool and hot tub were both clean and in working order. The outdoor shower with hot water was a nice treat. We had a whale breach right out front. Saw schools of spinner dolphins going back and forth in front of the home. Saw turtles. The kitchen was well stocked. Bicycles, pool toys, boogie boards were all provided. Neighborhood is great for bike riding and walking. So comforting laying in bed listening to the waves crash. Definitely want to return!
Beautiful home and view. House and grounds very clean. No snorkel equipment. Grille did not work. Upstair deck leaked into living room. Not enough toilet paper had to buy some. One dryer did not work. Did not communicate change of door code very well.
Gail, we’re glad you enjoyed the home and the ocean view. We often get complements about our home and want to thank you for bringing up any issues you had so we can address them, as we want our guests to have a 5-star stay with us. Hopefully you were able to use the 2nd dryer and take advantage of the other beach supplies and we have in the garage.
Thank You for Sharing your beautiful home
Love the house, the location. Everything was better than described, the views, the bedrooms upstairs, the decor..Wow.
The Pool was great, loved how you can just hang out and hear the waves crash on the rocks. Nice big deck and a hot tub. There is a gas and a charcoal BBQ . The house is stocked with everything you would need. The house is just beautiful, the floors all the details and the furnishings. We had 8 people staying and there was plenty of room. Plenty of parking, easy to get to the main hwy and into town. There are pool toys and bikes (we used both). My Dad lives about a mile from here , so it worked out perfectly. Will definitely stay here every time I go to visit.. Thank you for sharing !
Nice place to stay though unusual stair situation. Cleanliness rating due to fridge.
Aloha Barbara and Jack.
First off, we love the home. Beautiful and beautiful setting. The floors are incredible. We got in late Tuesday after dark so didn’t really fully enjoy until this morning. Unfortunately, after picking up groceries Tuesday evening, when we got to the Beach house and opened the fridge it smelled horribly and was quite wet inside. (I’m not sure the door had been closed properly). We could tell it had been cleaned with fresh paper towels put in the bottom of drawers, but the smell was awful. This afternoon when we got back from our activities, we cleaned the fridge. We removed the bottom “pantry drawer” and found a pool of spoiled stagnate water and I suspect blood from meat. It was pretty awful. Anyway, we cleaned that up and scrubbed all the doors and side shelves with dishwashing soap and dried everything. The odor is better but still evident when the doors are opened. Hopefully that will get better in another day or two. If it does not you may need to do a more thorough clean with more potent chemicals. The spoiled liquid may have gotten into the vents beneath the pantry drawer - we couldn’t tell by looking.
(We know how hard it is to keep our own place clean and can not image doing it for revolving renters!) We contacted property manager and she came right over with Costco bag of baking soda! By the time we checked out odor was 90% gone.

A little slice of heaven
We loved our time at the house! It’s simply a wonder to look out on that big ocean view from anywhere in the house. The attention to detail shines throughout, and the energy is so relaxing.
All the relaxing or adventurous activities you can dream of, Volcano viewing, warm pond soaking, sea-life viewing/hearing and every once in a while smelling, Especially wonderful for mind-clearing, adventuring, bike riding, walking, and a close-by great Sunday Farmer's Market -- Maku`u Market.
