About Barbara Bell
In this picture we are checking out the lava flow. We have lived in East Hawai`i for over 30 years, so we obviously love Hawai`i. Jack is a 3rd generation Hardwood Flooring Contractor, newly retired, and Barbara is a jaquette of all trades, most recently working for the County of Hawai`i.
Barbara Bell purchased this House in 1998
Why Barbara Bell chose Keaau
East Hawaii is varied, and exciting; the volcano never ceases to inspire and thrill. Madame Pele gives her unique energy to the whole of East Hawaii, and especially the Puna District. We have lived in East Hawaii for so long, and this house was our home, until we moved to the Big City of Hilo. Jack built this home in 1998, after living a few blocks away for about 15 years. We have completed a major re-fresh in Fall, 2013, and seem to always be cleaning, upgrading, or doing maintenance on something. The house is definitely in good order.
What makes this House unique
Because our home is almost at the end of a quiet dead-end street, it is very restful and private. We like to find new spots, via bicycle, or hiking boots, or swimming fins. There are so many incredible places to explore and we never get tired of adventuring. We like to walk or bike the coastline--for miles. To the south, we go to some tidepools about 1 1/2 miles away. To the north, we bike, then hike the last bit to a white sand beach that's about 5 miles away. When we are here, if we're not doing maintenance stuff, we also spend many hours lounging back and forth between the hot tub, the solar heated pool, and lazing around on the deck. It's so private and quiet--we love it.

First of all many thanks to the hosts.
Understanding and courteous.
The house itself was in a very good condition. The pictures shown on vrbo do not show at any moment how great the house actually is. Here is my personal recommendation that maybe you use new pictures, because the house is much bigger and more beautiful than on the shown pictures.
Unfortunately the weather did not play along with us, however, this was made good for us again with repeated looks at dolphins and turtles swimming directly at the house. There are plenty of activities in and around the house.
Bicycles, fishing rod, washing machine and dryer, plenty of towels and a large kitchen make the stay very relaxing.
We will definitely come back to Hawaii, and if there is the possibility we would book this house again to one hundred percent.
Many thanks and greetings from Germany
Ps. Great jacuzzi and pool
Away from it all
This property is so beautiful inside and out. The custom art around the house as well as conveniences such as having basic cleaning and cooking supplies made this feel like a real home, not a rental property. The view is incredible and the back deck was perfect for us to lounge and forget our to-dos, perusing the book shelf and trying to figure out how to use the telescope! When we got restless we adventured up the East coast to the botanical gardens, waterfalls, lava tunnels, the new black sand beach. Took two visits to Volcanoes while here and stopped through Hilo and other small towns near. We can't wait to bring our family and let them experience life on the edge of the world and away from it all, Thank you for the stay!
I LOVE THIS HOUSE!!
Ahhh!! This was my 2nd time staying at this beautiful house!! It is SO relaxing, so calming, so cozy!! There is so much privacy & I could just stare out to the ocean for hours!! I still didn't get blessed with seeing any dolphins out there but I will 1 day!! I will be back!!
Beautiful oceanfront home
A very well maintained home with a spectacular view of the ocean. The home was well supplied with everything our family of 6 needed, and the pool and hot tub were a huge hit in the evenings after days spent hiking and exploring. Would definitely stay here again!
Excellent and Peaceful
We had an amazing stay... I love the area and the house was perfect, location, amenities, view all 5 star!!!!!!
This is such a lovely home! It was very clean and well appointed. The furnishings and detail to craftsmanship in the home were beautiful. The floors and artwork were stunning. One of my favorite things was lying in bed in the morning watching the sunrise and the light to come through the full stained glass door and watch the whale light up. We visited with our three teenaged sons and there was plenty of room for all of us. We had ample towels both bath and beach. There were coolers and beach toys as well. The pool was terrific to cool off and play in. The location was nice for the Hilo area and Volcanoes park. It felt like you were actually in Hawaii and not in a touristy section. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and the communication with Barbara. One of my boys left something and she checked right away and mailed it to us! We would absolutely recommend this beautiful home!
All the relaxing or adventurous activities you can dream of, Volcano viewing, warm pond soaking, sea-life viewing/hearing and every once in a while smelling, Especially wonderful for mind-clearing, adventuring, bike riding, walking, and a close-by great Sunday Farmer's Market -- Maku`u Market.
