Sheep farm
Truly amazing views! Quiet secluded charming cottages. Beautifully decorated, everything you need from dishes to rubber boots! Best view of stars I have ever seen!
Thank you. Yes, remote as we are from urban lighting, the night skies can be amazingly clear, but you do need good weather! Please come back to enjoy them.
AMAZING
We drove up at night (not recommended, do so in daylight!), and had no idea the views that awaited us the next morning. Just astounding, small mountains, a lake, and the Atlantic all in view.
The sheep that wander the hills pass by the cottages and can be pretty entertaining.
The main cottage has everything you need to feel at home, there are even extra rain boots, coats, and hats.
The Kerry Way walking paths run behind the cottages.
Highly recommended. We’re already planning our return trip.
Thank you Kerri. You'll be so very welcome when you come back! Yes indeed finding these secluded rural cottages with the help of daylight is highly recommended!
Simply Spectacular!
This property is gorgeous. One member of our party described it as “magical” and another called it “Heaven.” No expense was spared to make it luxurious, relaxing and beautiful.
It was beautifully appointed and gorgeously decorated and the art was amazing. Peadar’s hospitality and communications were prompt, detailed and the most informative I’ve ever received from a host. Our entire group plans to return and I couldn’t imagine a better place to spend a vacation. It was my favorite spot - ever!
What wonderful visitors you were. Thank you for those great words: “gorgeous, magical, heaven, favorite spot-ever”. More importantly, thank you for confirming you’ll come back!! Peter
A bit of paradise in Ireland
I was a bit concerned about how remote the cottages would be. They are removed and the last bit of the dirt road is very bumpy, but believe me, the trip is soooo worth it!!! We rented the three cottages for 8 family members ranging from 72 to 4 years old. All of us chose this place as our favorite of three while in Ireland! It was so peaceful, the views stunning, the sheep such fun for the kids and adults. Took advantage of walking a lot, games of tag and soccer on the grass, watching out for the sheep poop! Peter was so helpful ahead of our visit, sending detailed driving directions and shopping suggestions for food. We cooked breakfast there, packed lunches, and then went to restaurants for dinner. Our only inconvenience while there, for travel planning purposes for the following day, was that we couldn't get the WIFI operating and Peter was in France. On our last day, he got our SOS question and we were able to hook up. But that was our only bit of inconvenience! Overall we are very happy this is where we had our first experiences as a family in Ireland! Thank you, Peter and Betty! the Beer family from NH/USA
How good to know your group of discerning (and agreeable) travellers so liked the Barralach cottages. Be sure to come back again! Such a pity the wifi needed re-booting. I'll be sure to leave instructions for the future; thank you for alerting me. Peter
The HIGHLIGHT of our Entire Trip to Ireland!!!
We just returned from a week in Ireland and a short stay at the Sheep Farm. If you are considering this property, think no further - Just Book IT! While the pictures look amazing, I promise that your time at Barralach will be the highlight of your visit to Ireland. From the morning parade of sheep and coffees at sunrise, to the warm fires in the evening and wine at sunset.... it is magical and welcoming and feels like home. There is something special here and we feel blessed to have experienced it!! Peter was wonderfully responsive and Betty cooks an amazing meal that you will not want to miss. Please send our love to the sheep!! We miss them already.
Thank you, Maria, for this glowing review. When superb visitors meet a superb property all is well in the world. i'm thrilled to know you may come back to Barralach, and that the younger generation have set their sights on a return visit. Peter
Barralach Cottages 10/1 - 10/13/2018
Our stay at Barralach was AWESOME! I had read many great reviews from previous visitors and we had high expectations. We were not Disappointed. The Cottages were clean and comfortable. The Main Cottage with the kitchen, dining, laundry and living areas was well appointed with everything we could possibly need, even boots and foul weather clothing. The living area with wood stove was our place to gather after hiking or on our return from day trips.
There was an extensive collection of eclectic reading materials, from Irish history and geology to maps and travel information, plus much, much more.
But the scenery from the house and property was just incredible. You will have commanding views of local mountains, Dingle Peninsula and the Curragh Lake estuary.
The Kerry Way hiking trail is nearby and allows for even novice hikers to enjoy the moderate trail to Glenbeigh. Last of all were the sheep that came and went at will, entertaining us with there antics.
Dooks golf course is very close by and was a great challenge.
We highly recommend this rental to anyone wishing to explore the splendor of Southwest Ireland.
Thank you Tim for this fine review and for having been such perfect visitors. We’d love you to come back again, and soon. [In case web users go hunting for the wrong lake I’d like to clarify that the name of our lake is “Caragh”. It really is the beauty you describe].
Map
Located right on the Kerry Way and two miles from the Ring of Kerry, Barralach is a hill-walker’s paradise. Our own 10 acres and the thousands of surrounding acres of open hillsides provide pasture for flocks of mountain sheep and lambs. We are close to the mid-point between the great golf courses of Killarney, Tralee, Waterville and Ballybunion and are only 10 minutes from Dooks 18-hole links course. We overlook the salmon and trout lakes and rivers of the Caragh system. The great Atlantic surfing strand of Rossbeigh and the quieter beaches of Dooks are close by. The fine restaurants and pubs of Killorglin and Glenbeigh, on the Ring of Kerry, are easily reached. Our brochure will guide you to the best eateries, and to superb and memorable activities such as horse riding on Rossbeigh strand or in Killarney National Park, visits to the Skellig and Blasket Islands, outings with the Dingle dolphin or magnificent walks on the Kerry Way, and drives on the Wild Atlantic Way. Skellig Michael is not only a Unesco Heritage site but now also a hideaway of Luke Skywalker of Star Wars, and is easily visited from our cottages.
Other Activities, all around us are: mountain biking, photography; landscape painting; bog vegetation lichens & natural springs; hundreds of acres for young and old.
Geology, showing dramatic effects of the Ice Ages in the shaping of the landscape all around us and the deposit of erratic boulders.
History including the Kerry Bog Village, the astonishing 350 million year-old tetrapod tracks, Gallarus Oratory and many Mass Rocks.
