This was our first trip to Andros, I was tipped off by a friend about it, and I'll definitely be going back, it's a perfect, unspoilt island with countless beautiful, uncrowded beaches to explore - we were often the only people on the beach and usually the only Brits which was wonderful!
The property is charming, situated in a peaceful, private location. It was simply decorated, and certainly what you'd call 'rustic'. However everything is in working order, it's comfortable, and there's a lovely sheltered area (important on such a windy island!) to sit and eat dinner or watch the sunset. Whilst you're at the house you feel like the only people on the island, yet its within a 10 minute drive of the local town with plenty of (quite) lively bars and restaurants, and a fairly well stocked supermarket (only complaint was, not enough Tonic for our sundown G&T's!) Also this town (Gavrio) is helpfully where the Athens ferry arrives into so it was handy for getting there and away.
Andros is a hidden gem of Greece, so wonderfully quiet and timeless - it's not a place of great luxury - you won't have your sea view impeded by superyachts - the restaurants were cheap and delicious, and the locals were wonderfully friendly despite my total lack of Greek language skills.
The Owners are clearly really attached to the property and have decorated it beautifully - the room with all the model boats is a particular treat. It was nice to stay in such a homely atmosphere. It's well maintained, with decent showers and plenty of space, the kitchen is small but perfectly useable, and well stocked with cutlery/crockery etc, we cooked at home most nights as the seating area outside was such a nice place to spend the evening. It did get hot at night but the rooms were perfectly airy and well ventilated, and there was the odd fan laying about but I didn't find I needed one with the windows open.
We spent most days exploring the various beaches and tavernas at our end of the island, all of which were wonderful - annoyingly I now cannot remember the names of them, but the owners had included a helpful pack of information in the house with tips on the good beaches etc which was very useful.
We were after a week of relaxing, eating, drinking and sunbathing and we got exactly that, and more, in spades.
All in all it was a wonderful place to stay and i'll definitely be booking in again next year if I can.
