About Stuart Beringer
My family and I have been vacationing on Eleuthera since the 1970's. After falling in love with the island we purchased a 2 bedroom condominium at Windermere, which was frequently visited and enjoyed for many years. When our sons got married and started having children we built our dream home on the Windermere beach: Surf Song. Please reach out with any questions about Surf Song or Eleuthera. We can help with rental cars, fishing and snorkeling excursions, recommend restaurants and things to do and see.
Stuart Beringer purchased this House in 1989
Why Stuart Beringer chose Savannah Sound

Our first trip to the Bahamas!
If you’re looking for a nice home to rent on the beach in the Bahamas, consider Surf Song. My family and I just returned from a 9 night stay at the property. The home is spacious and fit our group of 6 very comfortably and could’ve easily accommodated 2 more guests in addition. The view of the beach from the main room is spectacular!! The walk down to the beach was well marked and just a few short steps from the water which was very clear. We enjoyed going down to the beach everyday and also cooling off in the splash pool in the evenings. I would definitely consider staying at this property again if we go back to Eleuthera. The location of the home was also very safe and private. The island itself was very charming. There are many different excursions and places to see. My family and I have stayed in properties on many different islands in the Caribbean and this is definitely a place we will visit again! Thank you for allowing us to stay in your wonderful home.
While the pictures are accurate, they can't do justice to the amazing views and layout of the property. The living rooms and terrace have the most fantastic views of the ocean and each bedroom has direct access to the porch. The location of the house couldn't be better, being secluded yet providing the benefits of an exclusive private club on Windermere Island. The beach is steps away from the house and provides a private beach feel. The house is well-equipped with everything one needs.
The host has been extremely helpful throughout the booking process and always answered questions within less than a couple hours.
Can't wait to go back to Surf Song!!!!
We just returned from six wonderful nights at Surf Song Villa! If you love the Caribbean, and you love Eleuthera, this is the house for you!
For starters, from the beginning, Stuart was extremely reliable in responding to all our questions. We are two couples from the Northeast who travel each and every spring to get away from our kids, work and stress. Stuart was able to reply to each of our queries in very short time which made the booking process a breeze.
With regards to the house, we couldn't ask for anything more. We spent the mornings preparing breakfast in a well-equipped kitchen. Days were spent between the house and the beach. In the late afternoon sun, bottles of rosé and rum made the perfect way to end our day next to the ocean on the beach.
It was extremely private with the exception of a few folks walking by here and there, but for the most part, you had an entire beach to yourself in front of the house. Grocery stores were close by in Savanna sound. The "Fishbone" was a great way to get some local vibe, including beer, rum conch fritters and a little bit of darts.
For those of you who need air conditioning, don't lose any sleep over it. I am one who loves to have AC in the summertime. However, the winds were strong enough to cool this house down quite well. Not an issue.
The maid/housekeeper, Winnie, came by each and every day for a few hours. She made sure to keep things clean and made our time that much more enjoyable. A wonderful lady who did her thing and let you enjoy your time.
As two couples, we look forward to potentially staying here once again next year. What more do you need in a house like this with a little bit of everything. Thanks again Stuart!!!
Our family just returned from a one week stay at Surf Song. The home is beautiful and exceeded our already high expectations. The location is stunning. The home itself is in excellent condition and is exceedingly well maintained, down to the smallest details. The pride of ownership is evident.
We have stayed in numerous rental properties throughout Canada, the US and Europe over the last 20 years and would say that this property was amongst the best maintained that we have ever rented.
Winnie, the property caretaker, was lovely and added a great personal touch to the experience.
The owners were responsive and helpful with tips and ideas to enhance our experience on the island.
Spring break-Family Vacation
Our family vacation at Surf Song on Windermere Island was fantastic!
The Beringer Family was gracious and accommodating. Located directly on the beach we enjoyed long walks and swimming in the ocean. The club offers a restaurant, swimming pool, tennis, and fitness room. Winnie took care of housekeeping daily and provides flowers from the garden. We look forward to returning and recommend renting this house.
Completely exceeded our expectations
The house is beautifully appointed classic Bahamian. Art is gorgeous. Large bedrooms with baths and all ocean views. The kitchen is a dream to cook in..fully stocked with every gadget. Views are amazing and location close to clubhouse. Winnie and Jeff are there to clean and take care of property..very gracious and knowledgeable. No need for AC. The breeze is constant and every room has fans. Will definitely stay there as often as possible.
Windermere Island is centrally located on Eleuthera, which makes it an ideal home base for exploring all that Eleuthera has to offer. The two major towns on Eleuthera, Rock Sound and Governor’s Harbour, are each about a 25 minute car ride. Many of the island’s best stores and restaurants can be found there (or somewhere in between).
The best advice I can give anyone traveling to Eleuthera is to rent a car. The true beauty of the island can only be experienced by exploring its many pink sand beaches. The water on both the Atlantic and Caribbean is crystal clear and full of life.
My personal favorite is Lighthouse beach, which makes a great day-trip as it is situated on the southeastern point of Eleuthera, about an hour south of Windermere. It has great reefs for snorkeling and miles of that beautiful pink sand. Pack a picnic and go. You may be the only one there. Another favorite that is closer is Ten Bay Beach. On the Caribbean between Savannah Sound and Palmetto Point, Ten Bay is a long, shallow beach that is perfect on days when the wind is from the east. Great for kids, just shuffle your feet through the sand and you’ll be sure to find a sand dollar! These are just two of the multitude of beaches that define Eleuthera’s coastline. Some are well marked, others less so. Get in your car and go.
Besides its beaches, here are a number of interesting thing to do and see during your visit:
Fishbone Tours, Savannah Sound – Let Capt. Bubba (aka Julius Rankine) take you on a tour by boat of Savannah Sound and show you parts of Windermere Island you never knew existed. Fish, snorkel, and catch turtles.
Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve, Governor’s Harbour – Only a few years old, the preserve contains botanical treasure of native plants, good displays and easy walking trails. There are remarkable water features, and beautiful views. You will gain a real sense of Bahamian history here.
Ocean Hole, Rock Sound – The Ocean Hole is world renowned. Come feed the multitude of fish that live here, swim and snorkel. This naturally occurring blue hole is over 600 feet deep.
Island Farm, Palmetto Point – Your source for fresh produce, fresh baked breads, jams & jellies, dressings & pestos, honey and hot sauce. Yum!
Tarpum Bay Pier – every day (weather permitting) the fishermen bring their catch back to the dock at about 2-3pm. Fresh grouper, snapper, lobster and the “catch of the day” are available for purchase. Nothing tastes as good as fresh fished cooked and eaten the same day it was caught.
Bonefishing, Everywhere – Whether you wish to do-it-yourself or hire a guide, Eleuthera has numerous bonefishing flats where you can try your skill.
This is just a small sampling of the fun things to do and see on Eleuthera. Let us know what you are looking for and we will try our best to point you in the right direction.
