Cabin with 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Private and With Beautiful Mountain Views
About Sandy Nelson
Ty and I have been sharing our vacation home, Retreat in the Sky, with guests for over twenty years. It has been fun, sometimes very challenging...but most of all...a rewarding experience. Our goal is... and has always been ....to provide a wonderful vacation experience for our guests..
Sandy Nelson purchased this Cabin in 1998
Why Sandy Nelson chose Bryson City
We fell in love with Bryson City the first time we visited. It is quaint, friendly and surrounded by beautiful mountains. We found the perfect spot to build our second home. It's close to the top of Bear Cove Mountain in the Smokies. Our view is beautiful. Retreat in the Sky has a privacy that is hard to describe. Our first home is three hours away and seventeen years later, with our car packed with all our stuff, heading for Bryson City and our Retreat in the Sky, we're still excited.... after all these years, we still can't wait to get there.
What makes this Cabin unique
Sitting on the swing on our deck...enjoying the beautiful view...is the ultimate in relaxation. Retreat in the Sky can only be reached by driving up the private road and then you drive up some more on our paved driveway. We are not on the road so no one can see us or drive by us. So you see, we also have the ultimate in privacy. We not only have a beautiful deck filled with flowers and a wonderfully landscaped setting, but a large screened porch complete with hot tub and a great place to hang out. We're only five minutes from Ingles Supermarket, the quaint town of Bryson City and only ten minutes from just about everywhere else. We took a survey from vrbo/homeaway a few years back that results showed that only 21% of property owners that rent their vacation homes use it themselves. We use ours every chance we get. Not only because we love being there but because we want to maintain the high standards we set for ourselves in maintaining our beautiful vacation home. .

Homey Mountain Getaway
This house was so super sweet! My family of four spent Thanksgiving here and it was the perfect relaxing getaway! We even cooked Thanksgiving dinner and had plenty of kitchen supplies. The kids loved the loft sleeping area, the hot tub was perfect after a day of shopping and hiking and the view was gorgeous! The driveway is NO JOKE! Bring your four wheel drive vehicle, for sure. A fantastic family holiday!
Thank you so much for being wonderful guests. Our housekeeper Alice said after cooking a Thanksgiving dinner there she thought she would have her work cut out for her, but that was not the case. She said to thank you too. As for our driveway, it’s paved which a lot of mountain roads aren’t. Rain and leaves in November are challenging but we drive a front wheel drive Mazda and do just fine,
Beautiful cabin with a million dollar view. Nicely stocked . Close to grocery store, restaurants and shops. Great place to stay.
Beautiful Views - Total Privacy - Wonderful Memories
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Nelson’s Retreat in the Sky - and that it was!! A top of the mountain- with wonderful breath taking views. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at this location - it was as close to heaven as you can get!! Bryson City had everything to offer and everything is so close - yet you have the privacy and seclusion at the cabin location. We enjoyed many outings and then came back to enjoy the wonderful views and relaxation of the hot tub or just sitting on the porch - that this rental has to offer. The week went by toooo fast! Sandy and Ty were absolutely a charm to deal with from the very begiinning - keeping in contact with us through the whole process of securing their rental all the way thru arrival. Sandy truly makes you feel as if their home is your home for the time of your stay - she is such an angel - so thoughtful and caring. Thank you Sandy and Ty for allowing us to stay at your rental during our very special occasion. We highly recommend this rental!!
Terry & Gayle (Florida)
We are so lucky to have such wonderful guests as Terry and Gayle! We cannot thank them enough for being guests at Retreat in the Sky and we hope they will return for another visit!
The property was very clean, homey and peaceful. The views from the cabin were very pretty and relaxing. The outside deck was very relaxing sitting on the swing and looking out at the mountains. The screened in porch was very nice to sit in the hot tub and enjoy no bugs. The cabin felt very clean, inviting and felt like home away from home. We enjoyed our stay on the North Carolina side of the Smokies very much.
We had a wonderful stay at this property over the Labor Day weekend. Very pretty cottage, with gorgeous views. Sandy communicated with us giving us meticulous information about the place and places to visit nearby. I would highly recommend this property.
Beautiful view of the mountains from atop another mountain. Everything you could want is available. Great communication with the owners and readily available for assistance or information. We spent a month which was very relaxing and peaceful. There are plenty activities and venues in the area. We hated to leave, but home is where the heart is.
The most exciting new activity has to be ziplining....our guests just rave about how much fun it is...take a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway... it is unforgettable...pack a picnic lunch (picnic pack for two at Retreat for guests use) and mountain gaze, and you must go to Highlands and Cashiers (great shopping and restaurants) and visit all of the waterfalls in the area, the Biltmore Estate in Asheville is only one hour away...you should plan to spend the entire day as there is so much to see, go for a hike at the Joyce Kilmer forest or Deep Creek, visit Dollywood and stop at all the outlets on the way, Win some $$ to take home at Harrahs Casino in Cherokee and enjoy a great dinner there as well. You will NEVER run out of things to do. Or, never leave, sit on the deck at Retreat in the Sky and enjoy the privacy, the wonderful view and each other!
