About this property

Kyoto Senraku - Beautifully Restored Machiya: Only 2 stops from Kyoto Station!

The complete renovation of Senraku House located in downtown Kyoto was done in 2011, and we have been upgrading the house since then. Now, modern convenience has been added to its history of the house. This small Traditional Japanese House is on a quiet lane-way in a very convenient area in Kyoto: 24HR convenience stores, 24HR supermarket, cafés, bakeries, IZAKAYA, restaurants, banks, department-stores, drug stores, a rent-a-cycle (bicycle-rental) shop, Sento (a type of traditional Japanese communal bath house), hospital, and everything you need are close by. Nijo Castle, Nishiki Market, and Shinkyogoku Shopping Arcade are within a short walking distance, and from the train station which is less than 10 minute walk away from the house, you can visit and see numerous historic sites in Kyoto: such as Kinkakuji (Golden Pavillion), Heian Shrine, Ginkaku-ji, Sanjusangendo, Kiyomizu Temple, Gion Geisha District, Yasaka Shrine, and Arashiyama.

Location! Location! Location!: Senraku House is located in Central Kyoto: Visiting beautiful historic sites in Kyoto is very easy from the house. You can even take a day trip to Nara, another old capital of Japan, to Ohara, an old nature reserved area with temples, hot springs and unique small shops, and to other cities like Osaka, Kobe from its prime location of Sen-Raku House.

Gion Festival: During the Gion Festival in July, one of the three major festivals of Japan, the House becomes part of the festivities. One of the prime locations of the Gion Festival is only a minute away.

Living in Kyoto!, not Visiting Kyoto!!: The house has well-appointed kitchen, laundry machine, high-speed internet connection with laptop computer, and 32 inch flat screen TV; so you can experience “Living in Kyoto” , not “Visiting Kyoto” at Sen-Raku House.

Superb!
Beautifully appointed, very well located, charming and helpful owner. You couldn't ask for more! The stairs to second story are steep, so be apprised of that, but we didn't find them hard to navigate and we are both 70! Lovely touches, lovely neighborhood, a great place to stay while in Kyoto. And very quiet too! We'll definitely stay here next time we go to Kyoto.

Amazing!
We have stayed at many vacation rentals and by far this one is at the top of our list. From its ambience to its location. Great neighborhood with the best bakery in Kyoto just right across the street and two wonderful restaurants just next door. Our hosts go above and beyond to accommodate and made our stay a truly beautiful experience, we are very grateful.

I am from Toronto, Canada. 20 years ago I moved to Kyoto, Japan with my family. Having Japanese heritage but growing up very Canadian! I wanted to find out more about my Japanese culture and also expose our kids to it. Currently, I am teaching English to a diverse group of Japanese students. This allows me to see Japan though their eyes and also teach them about Canada and its culture. When I do get some free time, I like to walk along the Kamo River with my wife and kids. We as a family enjoy traveling around Japan and North America to teach our kids about other cultures. Kyoto is a wonder place to live, visit and raise kids. We would like many travelers to experience “Kyoto-Living”.
