About Dorothy Dean
I've lived in New Mexico for 35 years, loving it the entire time.
Dorothy Dean purchased this House in 1994
Why Dorothy Dean chose Cañada de los Alamos
Close to town but has the old world feeling of the Santa Fe I first met in 1979. Quiet, fresh mountain air; I walk up my road and I am in the Santa Fe National Forest. Beautiful views of the mountains the entire drive out.
What makes this House unique
The lights of the city are occluded which makes twice as many stars visible in the night sky. I love watching meteor showers from my hot tub! It is exquisitely quiet and peaceful and only 15 to 20 minutes to the plaza all along a graceful mountain road without traffic lights and only a few stop signs, no traffic!

Peace and quiet
Very relaxing and quiet except for the local birds. Not far from SFe, but do need 4WD when it snows. Property is immaculate, and hot tub is lovely.
I’m so happy you enjoyed your stay!
Beautiful, idyllic romantic getaway!
My wife and I enjoyed 4 nights in this lovely cottage tucked away in a valley and almost entirely hidden from view from the road. Other than a microwave, almost anything you'd need in the way of household items was provided...even 2 white terry-cloth robes to wear when going outside to the hot tub! We enjoyed luxuriating in it on cold nights while looking up and seeing so many stars, we could actually see the milk of the Milky Way. Inside the home, the tile covering the bottom floor actually has radiant heat coming through it, so your bare feet stay warm!
Dorothy is a great host. She was always quick to reply to any of my Vrbo messages, and she offered suggestions of things to do and see. She even provided a large multi-gallon bottle of fresh water! Dorothy is an art aficionado, and she has decorated the home in such a lovely manner, with artistic works by local artists and friends hanging on all the walls.
My wife and I enjoyed ourselves so much and definitely hope to return!
More stars than we could count.....
That's the view from the patio.
Want privacy, this is your location.
Far enough removed yet only a few minutes outside Santa Fe.
Looking forward to going back....
Charming private get away
A very lovely cottage close enough to Santa Fe to enjoy all that town has to offer but out in the country enough to feel like you have really gotten away from the crowds.
We really enjoyed soaking in the hot tub at the end of each evening and cocktails around the fire pit was a treat!
We were there with our 25 year old son and there was plenty of room for three adults. Would be a great get away for a couple.
The gardens and grounds are lovely.
You are so kind, thank you!
Perfect Santa Fe retreat in the woods.
Adorable home with luxuriant amenities. Loved all of the art pieces and books! Limited wireless but still capable to connect. This house is fully equipped for everything we need. We loved the fire pit and hot tub and especially loved the fully equipped kitchen to make our own meals at home. The second floor is really nice and the bed is great. It is peaceful and quite and loved watching the birds and visits from the local dog we named girly “Shirley”. Glad we had a high clearance rental, for the dirt roads and driveway in the event of any heavy rain,, but we had no issues. Harry’s Roadhouse is legendary and ate many meals there too. An overall great experience and felt right at home.
This secluded property was absolutely perfect for our 20th wedding anniversary. Romantic and quaint!
