About Martin and Rodrigo
With a positive attitude the world most probably will smile back at you. I'm originally from Berlin, passed through New York and Hamburg, and ended up in sunny Spain - first Madrid, now Barcelona. Am trilingual deutsch, english, español. My interests span from photography and yoga to travelling and 24/7 networking - with favourite destinations from TYO, HKG, BOS and BOG to HAV, LON, BCN and BER. When outside my city, I prefer to stay at private hosts, a stunningly efficient and fun way to connect and personalize one's trip. The inside is the new outside.
Martin and Rodrigo purchased this Apartment in 2003

3 Days in Madrid
Martin was so helpful pre trip and while we were in Madrid. He gave us plenty of suggestions. He arranged a taxi to get us from the airport to the VRBO and when we left at 6am a taxi to the train station. Marina checked us in and was very gracious. The apartment was a little dated compared to the pictures. The apartment was very clean. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. If you want to experience Madrid this is a good place to stay.
Hello Jim and Kathy, we want to thank you for taking the time to voice your feedback which we highly value - all Marina, Rodrigo and I will try to work on making this property a bit more appealing. As you correctly noticed, it needs a makeover, as the last refurbishment was in 2013. We would love you to consider us in the future and will keep you updated once the refurbishment is completed. Have a marvelous autumn, greetings, Martin.
A great location central to, and within easy walking distance of, the main sights.
Our second stay, and we would return. The apartment is nicely designed and met our needs very well. Great location - convenient to the subway and a large 24/7 grocery store and walkable distance to major museums and Atocha. Helpful hosts, congenial communication.
Well equpped apartment in great central location
Martin is a superhost, backed up by his co-hosts Rodrigo and Marina. He was both very responsive and proactive as a host. He ensured that we had parking arranged at a reasonable price (EUR 10 per day) albeit about 1 km from the apartment. However, that is the best that can be done given restrictions on vehicular traffic in central Madrid. He also communicated with the parking company to ensure that we had a free transfer of our luggage to the car on the day we left. He greeted us on arrival and showed us around the apartment and gave us lots of suggestions about what to do and where to eat. The apartment was clean, well-equipped and quiet, being on an interior courtyard away from the street. It met our needs as a couple perfectly. It is on the second floor of the building with no elevator so be prepared for 30 steps up. Location in Lavapies (a lively multicultural neighborhood) could not be much more central. Main museums are 15 mins to the east and other tourist attractions 15 mins to the north west.
Great place in Madrid
Martin is a warm, responsive, and accomodating host. This is the second we have stayed here and have not been disappointed. The apartment is clean, well equipped, and centrally located to historic Madrid. Overall,, a wonderful place to stay! Would definitely return... actually, we did!!
Wonderful informative hosts, central location, well equipped. Only minor issue...iron did not work. Would highly recommend.
Many thanks for your review and for informing us about the iron. As indicated via email, we will look into it on your day of departure and replace it. Happy travels and many happy returns.

Just 2 minutes to subway station, and only 10 to 25 minutes to all the places of interest that Madrid offers: Prado Museum, Reina Sofia Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Plaza Mayor, el Rastro, Puerta del Sol, Gran Vía, several bars, restaurants, stores and entertainment venues - flamenco dance, clubs, and live show cafes.
Alternative museums like Casa Encendida, CaixaForum, Tabacalera and Matadero are strung in a 15 minutes walk radius.
Brand new and highly recommendable is Madrid Rio: the 650 ha. large and 10 km long park alongside the Manzanares river, where cyclists and families meet skateboarders and dog-walkers.
The apartment is easily and quickly accessible to the apartment by public transport: two subway lines (line 1 and 3), several bus stops; four guarded car parking facilities at an additional cost - the apartment has no parking - and a taxi stop 100 meters down the street.
The Atocha train station, where the AVE high speed train connects with several Spanish and French cities, is located within a 10 minutes walk.
You might want to get active playing tennis at the community tennis court in the Retiro Park, skateboarding along the Madrid Rio Park or simply roof terrace hopping and cocktail sipping at the Hotel ME Reina Victoria, Hotel Room Mate Oscar; Hotel Iberostar Las Letras Gran Vía or Casa Encendida.
