Villa Les Ensemberts is the Family Vacation par Excellence
(see Youtube video by our guests).

The large luxurious well-ranked Les Ensemberts beachfront home is located outside the village of Sainte-Marie La Noue. It has a South-South West orientation: all the rooms give onto the swimming-pool area. At the bottom of the garden, the sea is all yours. Prepare yourself for 'Waow' sunsets.

Please note : this villa is not suitable for wedding parties. No tents shall be planted on the lawn. Thank you for your understanding.

Total area: 1,444 square meters.

The garden - mostly lawn - is planted with Mediterranean trees: rose-bays, an old olive tree, a fig tree...

The spacious interior of this two-storey glasshouse is furnished throughout with fine antiques from various regions of France (Provence, Charente, Touraine). Traditional tile and parquet floors add to the gracious ambiance.

In addition to the 6 bedrooms, decorated in authentic Ile de Ré style, there is an upper sundeck on the first floor, a large eat-in kitchen, a mezzanine, study and winter garden with Weber BBQ and elegant resin garden furniture on the lower wooden deck, stylish grey parasols around the swimming pool in the landscaped garden, and tennis-table equipment as well as table-football. There are three flat screens with satellite TV and of course WIFI all over the villa.

You will love our 50 sqm swimming pool: we keep it heated early April-late October. It is legally equipped with an electronic cover that makes a safe and fun-filled environment for children. Large beige beach & swimming-pool towels are provided.

Appliances include an induction and gas stove, a microwave, two refrigerators, a freezer, a dishwasher, an Insinkerator, a garbage compactor.

The laundry is equipped with a washer and dryer as well as an ironing board and iron.

A TRENDY CHIC ISLAND TAILORED TO HUMAN PROPORTIONS: This beautiful exclusive beach home is located on Ile de Ré, a popular summer resort on the western shore of the Atlantic. The tiny island (30 km long and between 100 m and 5 km wide) possesses many navigable waterways, a varied coastline with the largest beaches along the southern coast and yachting harbours on the sheltered northern side. The “White Island”, as it is also known, is linked to the busy port of La Rochelle by a 1988-built bridge stretching in a gentle curve over 3, 5 km. It is located 500 km from Paris and is reached daily by direct plane from Paris, London-Stansted, Birmingham and Southampton; by TGV in 3 hours or by the motorway in 4 and half hours from Paris.
Bordeaux, the ancient city and wine centre, is 150 kilometres away.
Ile de Ré is best visited by bike. (for rent everywhere). It is home to 16, 000 islanders who have chosen to live there year-round. It boasts 10 communes, all distinctly genuine villages.

VINEYARDS, SALT, OYSTERS AND POTATOES: In the 17th century, boats exported wine and salt from “Ré la Blanche” so named for its saltmarshes. The second part of the 19th century proved disastrous: phylloxera destroyed the vineyards and the salt- marshes were ruined by bad weather and competition from imported salt from the East and South of France. The population fell by half.
Today, vineyards occupy five times as little area as they once did. However, they still produce the traditional Cognac, Charente table wines and the excellent “Pineau des Charentes”.
Farmers grow a type of early potato, for which they have managed to gain an Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (A.0.C.). Oyster-farming made its appearance around 150 years ago when people learned to cultivate the “Fines” and “Spéciales de claires” which so far they had been content with gathering.
Salt production had very nearly disappeared. A new generation has now rolled up their sleeves to prepare saltpans and revive the harvesting of “white gold”.

SIGHTSEEING ON THE ISLAND: The 10 typical villages of the island (Rivedoux,-Plage, Sainte-Marie de Ré (labelled Station Verte de Vacances), Le Bois Plage en Ré, La Couarde sur Mer, Ars en Ré, Saint-Clément des Baleines, Les Portes en Ré, Loix, Saint-Martin de Ré, La Flotte); Saint-Martin, the historical capital with its beautiful Unesco-listed precincts fortified by Vauban; 12th-century Cistercian Abbaye des Châteliers; old royal buildings dating back to the British and French periods and the French religious wars (13th and 17th centuries); small museums such as the Hôtel de Clergeotte in Saint-Martin, or the Musée du Platin at La Flotte; one of the biggest European wild bird sanctuaries: Lilleau des Niges; salt-marshes where salt is still harvested before your eyes, oyster-farms, vineyards; the alleys between the green-shuttered whitewashed houses and their hollyhocks; numerous cycle-paths, windmills and thousands of other surprises – and finally, the bustling protestant city of La Rochelle with its museums and restaurants.

Super location beachside villa
We had a most enjoyable spring stay at the villa with six children and six adults. The layout is suited to the family with a granny wing and family annexe either side of the heated pool. The facilities provided like table tennis, table football and bikes(extra) were superb for introducing young children to new skills. An amazing collection of toys were hidden in various drawers and the overall sense of being lived in and not pared down for rental was very welcoming. The owner and managing agent could not be more helpful.

October 2018
The Villa was everything we had hoped for. The layout was perfect for our large family of ten adults, giving comfort & privacy to all. The ample garden was lovely, leading right down to the sea where we played boules in the evenings as the sun went down. The swimming pool was gorgeous & a really good size & quite warm enough considering it was October & the electric cover was a really nice addition too which seemed to help keep it super clean. The table tennis room was a huge success & the ample dining options were ideal for some lovely family meals. The location was great for cycling & walking. La Flotte & Saint Martin only a short drive or 15 to 20 minutes (gentle cycle) on the bikes. We had a really wonderful & memorable holiday at Les Ensemberts & hope to return again very soon.

Wonderful home on a delightful island
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home on Ile-de-Ré so very much. It was all the right things in all the right ways. We felt so at home. We made good use of the pool, the BBQ, the table tennis table, the beach, the bicycles... The house is very comfortable and well equipped and has wonderful flow and connection between the outside and indoor spaces. Catherine, our host, and Romain who provided concierge services were both so helpful and pleasant to deal with. The area around the house is peaceful and calm. There is a charming market, boulangerie and other necessities in La Noue - an easy 10 minute bicycle ride from the house. I would thoroughly recommend Les Ensemberts and I hope to return. Thank you, Catherine and Romain for a wonderful holiday.

We built Villa Les Ensemberts when our twin sons (now 33) were born.
Emmanuel is a cartoon animator working for various animation studios across the world.
Jonathan, an IT engineer, works in his own start-up in Paris: trusk.com
I lost my husband in February 2012.
After a career in higher education I now teach the refugees French in Paris as well as organize "conversation tables" in French for foreign residents in Paris. This is volunteer work.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Ile de Ré in the summer of 1989, our twins' first summer. Two years later we managed to buy one of the last seafront plots of land on the island. We had villa Les Ensemberts built in 1991, with my husband designing it and I in charge of interior decoration.
The villa has been the family's summer place ever since and is constantly being refurbished, repainted and maintained in a perfect state, a challenge for this beachfront villa that was severely battered by the Xynthia storm in February 2010 and continues to be hit by storms every month of February.
You will love the smell of the sea and light breeze every morning when you open the shutters of Villa Les Ensemberts!

What makes this property unique

Villa Les Ensemberts is literally on the beach /cliff, the views, sunsets, are fantastic. The heated swimming pool is a delight.
The location on the Southern coast means it is protected from the winds.
The secluded spot allows complete privacy.

AN ISLAND OF FOUR SEASONS
In September the tide continues to rise and ebb twice a day. Those who have the bright idea to visit out of the season never regret their decision: island life goes on with shops and services remaining open all year round. In autumn, visitors can admire golden sun-drenched vineyards and witness the grape harvest first-hand. In winter, the beaches empty to make way for horses and walkers wrapped up warmly against the wind.At Christmas, the oysters taste even better when they come directly from the nearby oyster beds. In spring the air is still cool when the first chairs reappear outside the cafés.
