Why Douglas McCourt chose Jonesport
Jonesport is a true fishing village that gives one the impression that they have stepped back in time to visit Maine the way it was many years ago - no crowds, friendly people and beautiful scenery.

Relaxing Retreat with a View
This is a nicely decorated quaint, old-fashioned cottage/camp with knotty pine walls and floors. There is an adequate kitchen and small bathroom with smallish stall shower - typical of the period in which this was built. There is a steep path down to the rocks below the cottage and a sandy beach down the road. You come here, though, for the stunning view off the deck, the sunrise, the sunset, and the sounds of the ocean.
Jonesport is a rural, working lobstering harbor with very friendly locals. If you’re looking for lots of people, cars, restaurants and shops, I suggest staying in Bar Harbor. We like to take day trips and return to the peace and quiet of the ocean here.
Cottage With A View
Everything here is wonderful. Doug is an excellent communicator and super-helpful with any questions or needs. The cottage is just as described, but better even than the pictures show.
We saw lots of birds, from hummingbirds to eagles. Sunsets were spectacular. The night skies are great for viewing, seeing the Milky Way is cool. We brought our telescope and enjoyed some great sights.
It's 90 minutes to Bar Harbor and 60 minutes to the Canadian border if you fancy a side trip. When you're hungry, you're 10 minutes from Bayview Takeout with food to please everyone. You can also go to one of the docks and purchase live lobsters.
The kitchen is stocked with what you would need to cook your lobsters and crackers to open them up. Furniture was comfortable, even the outdoor chairs.
We spoke to some neighbors, they were very nice. It's a lovely small town and we plan on coming back. We highly recommend staying here if you have the chance. We will surely be back!
Thank you so much for that wonderful review and we look forward to hearing from you again.
Two Lovely Weeks
The view from the cottage is amazing! Every day a new sunrise or sunset had us glued to the beautiful, changing, ocean views. It was the place to enjoy evening cocktails on the deck. The cottage is comfortable and very typical of an early-era coastal house. The original plank-pine walls lend to an authentic Maine cottage feel. We enjoyed lobster from the nearby Jonesport fishermen's co-op and fresh blueberries! Being a bird watcher, we were treated to wonderful views of the resident Bald Eagles on Bar Island, and numerous ocean species right in front of the cottage. A little hummer visited the feeder daily. It was a very enjoyable stay, and I look forward to visiting again.
Thank you so much for taking the time to post your wonderful review; it always makes me feel good to know our visitors enjoyed their stay at our cottage.
What a wonderful place. A cozy cabin with stunning views. We absolutely loved it, and can’t wait to go back
One word - perfect!
The cottage was perfect and I wish they could time-freeze the harbor of Jonesport! Got great fish at the take-out place on Beal's Island (forgot the name but follow the road around after the bridge, on the left) and the best Italian country bread since Italy (at Hannafords in Machias)! Clearly food is high on my agenda anywhere. I roamed (back roads) but I also intentionally did a lot of sitting on the deck being "channeled" by the revitalizing and sanity-restoring beauty of the bay. I had a great visit and hope to go back as often as possible.
Thank you for that wonderful review! I’ve gazed out over that beautiful bay for many years now and it never fails to elevate my mood and renew my spirit; it always does my heart good to know that our visitors feel the same way.
Visitors return for the peaceful atmosphere that this area offers, and to enjoy the opportunity of enjoying Maine's natural beauty in a quiet setting.
The area has superb bird watching, kayaking, hiking
and canoeing in some of the most pristine rivers in all of Maine. For
more traditional recreation there are two small golf courses, which are never crowded, located just a few miles away.
Puffin tours are available in the area reservations are advised.
The location also provides easy access to Acadia Park, Campobello
Island, St. Andrews, and Winter Harbor.
This is truly one of the most scenic areas on the coast of Maine.
