Villa in Douliana village, Nr. Chania. Other villages are Gavalahori and Vamos both 3km away. - Secluded: Quiet And Unique Location With Close Proximity To The Local Taverna.
My wife and myself are still working though beyond retirement age! My wife as a Medical Secretary with the NHS, myself mainly as a membership consultant with the Federation of Small Businesses having a background with Esso Retail Marketing for over 30 years. We have two daughters and two grand children all living close by and we see them often. There also three elderly cats in the family plus an elderly but fully restored Morris Minor convertible.
RozzyTurner purchased this Villa in 2000
Why RozzyTurner chose Douliana
Friends we met during the '90's had fallen in love with Crete, searched the island for the ideal location to build their dream villa and the result is Villa Ionaida located in a beautiful valley close to an ancient Cretan village, Douliana. All essential facilities are in the nearest towns, Almerida, Kalives, and Vamos. Although close to the nearest rustic Taverna just 140 metres away with delicious food, we have perfect peace and tranquility almost like being on your own island! Those who have stayed return year after year.
What makes this Villa unique
Villa Ionaida is unique in being surrounded by its own 2/3 acres of land with views to the sea and the White Mountains. It has an 'orchard garden' of nearly an acre with lemon, orange, apricot, bananas, almonds, fig trees and wild herbs in abundance and of course olive trees - even an ancient corn circle. There is almost continuous bird song and the occasional sound of sheep bells and if you can tolerate this sound intrusion then Ionaida is for you!

Lovely villa, very comfortable, in quiet village setting
We were a family of 6 staying here and the villa was perfect for us. Plenty of room for our 4 children (3 teens and 1 almost teen). Made full use of the annexe room which worked well and we all loved the fantastic pool. Well equipped villa and walking distance to local tavernas which was brilliant. Definitely need a car to access the beaches and local areas. David and Maria (the managers) were wonderful and a great help in recommending activities and areas to visit. Would highly recommend this villa...........wonderful setting in beautiful Crete.
Secluded villa with fabulous pool
This lovely villa is set in a forest in a small village with two great tavernas. There are two bedrooms in the villa and an annexe which can sleep another two people. The pool is a good size and provides shade and several sitting places. David and Maria who look after it are a source of great tips for things to do. The mini market in the village is tiny but there is a supermarket in nearby Kalives. (You do need a car) There are beaches there and in Almyrida. Georgiopolou was a great trip out as was the drive over the mountains to the south of the island. The ruins at Aptera are a must. Two thoughts about the villa - a safe for passports would be great and maybe a barbeque?
As always, the best location for a holiday in the world.
Excellent villa in perfect peaceful position
Great location, all amenities provided or nearby
Villa Ionaida provided our family ( with 2 small kids) with all we needed for an enjoyable time in western Crete. We love Douliana and had been there before, and ionaida made it even more special. Thanks Rozzy & fam and David &Maria for your support onsite! We'll be back!
The nearest safe sandy beach at Almerida with sail boarding/canoes etc is a 30 minute stroll from the Villa and ideal for children. It is no more than 10 minutes by car with free and ample parking.
Chania Airport is 35 minutes drive away, or a gentle 2 hour drive from Heraklion Airport. Car hire is essential and should be arranged.
In the village there is an ancient church as well as a secret cave chapel. Further afield there is an interesting Fort, Roman site and museum in Aptera and a visit to Chania the ancient capital of Crete is a must. A glass factory is located near Plaka with a shop, really worth a visit, and for an adventurous day out the internationally famous Samaria Gorge. There are many more places to visit near and far eg. Knossos and full details are provided in the villa.
There is a small grocery store in the village of Douliana and the main grocery shopping can be done in Kalyves, 7 km away, Almeryda which is less than 2 km away or Vamos which is 3 km away. The nearest bank is in Kalives. There is a wide selection of tavernas in all the local towns and villages.
